You're Probably A Feminist

The sociological theory on feminism is the idea that men oppress women. To me, I personally believe that this is not what feminism is about. I believe it to be a social movement dedicated to gaining equality for both sexes.

Patriarchy the ideology that males are dominant, which is something that I believe feminists are fighting against. If we look back to the sociological theory towards feminism, we are given the impression that women hate men. This is not the case; feminists hate patriarchy.

The idea that females are naturally better carers for children than males is created by patriarchy - feminists do not want men to lose custody of their children due to this assumption. The idea that men should pay for dinner is part of patriarchy, when in fact most women would be perfectly happy to pay for the meal or go halves.

I think what people need to realise is that, although we are socialised by the media to believe that feminists hate men, the meaning of 'feminisim' has changed. Now days, feminists are much more focused on obtaining gender equality, rather than just women's rights (although it's still a massive issue that we shouldn't forget about). The fact of the matter is, deep down, the vast majority hate patriarchy, not men.

I am a feminist. When I say this however, I mean it in the terms of gaining gender equality for both males and females.
If you want men to have an equal chance to gaining custody of their children compared to women, then feminists are helping you. If you want gender equality, then you are a feminist.
